The Assistant Teacher supports the teaching staff in implementing childcare programs and assists in
providing high quality childcare services to children and parents that focus on the YMCA core values. This
position provides direct supervision to a group of children in a classroom and creates positive, nurturing
relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. This position
may work with infants through school age children.
Hours are Monday-Friday between 6:45 am and 6:00 pm. Full Time staff receives a family YMCA membership, a daily lunch and other full time benefits! Primary age/class is Pre-School. May assist in other classrooms on occasion.
Role and Responsibilities
- Availability to work varied hours; early mornings, days, early evenings.
- Assist with the implementation of daily plans and activities.
- Assist with supervising the children, classroom, and all activities.
- Maintaining child/staff ratios within the licensing law requirements.
- Customer service skills for greeting members, parents/caregivers and guests in a friendly manner
with effective and positive communication. - Support classroom and behavior management consistently according to guidelines.
- Maintain confidentiality and display professionalism.
- Must have flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
- A willingness to commit to the mission of the YMCA, promote the YMCA’s core values and areas of
focus into daily work. - Attend staff meetings and parent conferences.
- Assist with special events as needed.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications
- Minimum of 18 years of age.
- One or more year’s related experience preferred.
- Satisfactory background check.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (may be obtained upon hire through employer)
